Initial Psychiatric Evaluation

Thoughts of Hope provides confidential, comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, including a full mental health diagnostic assessment. Our psychiatric medical team screens patients for a variety of mental health conditions. These conditions include depression, anxiety, ADHD (Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder), bipolar disorder, autism spectrum disorders, and others. In addition to evaluating mental health, psychiatric evaluations also assess an individual’s overall physical health. Sometimes, medical conditions are related to mental health symptoms. Weston Psychiatric performs psychiatric evaluations for children, adolescents, and adults.​

Psychiatric Evaluation Questions

Psychiatric evaluations involve an in-depth interview with a psychiatrist. Generally, an individual undergoing a psychiatric evaluation will be asked to:

• Describe unusual physical and psychiatric symptoms they’re experiencing

• Describe unusual behaviors and the details surrounding these behaviors

• Tell about their family history and personal history related to mental health

• Fill out a medical history form and describe their physical health

Holistic Mental Health Treatment Plans

After completing the evaluation, the psychiatric physician and/or nurse practitioner considers all of the elements of the evaluations and make a diagnosis. Next, they consult with the individual, parent, or family to determine a treatment plan to address short-term and long-term wellness goals. Psychiatric evaluations are the starting point for holistic mental health treatment. Treatment plans may include psychotherapy (also known as counseling or talk therapy), psychological testing, prescription medication, or other mental health services.
